- Abstract
Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) is an inherited disease characterized by unilateral or bilateral renal cyst formation. In the Persian cat, this may occur because of the mutation of PKD-1 gene.A seven-year-old female Persian cat and a five-yearold male Persian cat were referred to Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Universitas Brawijaya with clinical signs of anorexia, vomiting, moderate dehydration, lethargy and poor body scoring. Physical examination revealed multiple nodules on kidney during palpation. Radiographic changes in the second cat presented irregular margin of right kidney and renomegaly. Ultrasound examination reveals presence of multiple cysts that replace all the normal tissue in both kidneys. The cysts had a clear anechoic bounded structure. Multiple cysts were found in the renal cortex and medulla in various sizes starting from 0.82 cm - 2 cm and lead to kidney damage. Color Doppler examination revealed poor renal blood flow. Significantly higher hemato-biochemical parameters indicate renal azotemia and decreased kidney function.
