- Abstract
The article focuses on the decision of the U.S. Supreme Court in the cases Kansas v. Hendricks and Kansas v. Crane which affirmed the constitutionality of the sexually violent predator (SVP) legislation. It mentions the Sex Offender Management and Treatment Act (SOMTA) of New York as the Article 10 of New York's Mental Hygiene Law which creates the system in which sex offenders nearing the end of their current confinement may further indefinite confinement in a psychiatric facility.
