- Abstract
In this paper, the isolation, antioxidant and antitumor activities of three polysaccharide fractions from green tea seed cake (TSCP, TSCP-1 and TSCP-2) were investigated. The polysaccharides content in TSCP, TSCP-1 and TSCP-2 was 87.35%, 93.98% and 95.99%, respectively. The monosaccharide composition showed they mainly consisted of glucose, and a certain amount of arabinose (4.47%) and galactose (2.94%) were found in TSCP. TSCP had the strongest DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging ability in a dose-dependent manner, which reached around 60% and 45%. However, the antioxidant capacity on hydroxyl radical of TSCP was comparable to that of TSCP-1. The antitumor activity of TSCP-1with the higher sulfate contents had obviously higher activities against MKN45 gastric cancer cells and DLD intestinal cancer cells than the other two. The antioxidant potencies of polysaccharide fractions were closely correlated with the contents of uronic acid and sulfate, while the antitumor potency only with sulfate content. It is inferred that polysaccharides from green tea seed cake could be a potential source of natural antioxidants applied to health food and medicine.
