- Abstract
The article discusses research on institutional quality and autocracies, with a focus on the persistence of low-quality economic institutions in developing countries and its implications for policies toward institutional change. Topics include economic models which include utility functions to describe autocrats' power, the Economic Freedom of the World (EFW) Index, and regressions on data sets. Additional information is presented on per capita income, the efficiency of markets, and economic growth.
