- Abstract
The article discusses occult hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in blood donors. Occult HBV infection is diagnosed when HBV DNA test is positive but hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) is undetectable. It may represent acute infection in the window period and persistence of replication after recovery in the presence of anti-HBs. The HBV DNA nucleic acid amplification technique (NAT) screening in blood transfusion and the existence of occult HBV infection (OBI) in donors has become apparent.
