- Title
Virtual Happy Hour: Remotely Useful for Fellowship Selection?
- Authors

- Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic has led to the virtualization of many aspects of society, including medical education. This includes virtual residency and fellowship interviews, which now often include a virtual happy hour where applicants can interact with current fellows. A study in the field of gastroenterology evaluated the value of the virtual happy hour and found that it offers cost savings, scheduling flexibility, and a greater number of interviews. However, there are limitations to this approach, such as the difficulty of assessing program culture and interacting naturally. The study suggests that virtual interviews and happy hours can serve as a screening method for in-person interviews for select candidates.
