- Abstract
The article presents information on the history of refrigeration. In the ancient time the need of refrigeration arose for the cooling of beverages. In a similar manner the people in the northern countries started using natural ice to keep meat and fish fresh for many days. However it was a nature dependent method, experiments for artificial making of ice began and Jacob Perkins became the first American to secure the patent for making ice in 1834, using ether as a refrigerant. Ferdinand P. Carre of Paris got success in inventing the first ice-making machine using the principle of ammonia absorption. Detailed information on step-by-step developments in the field of refrigeration and its mass use like refrigerated transport in human living has been offered in the article.
