- Abstract
Purging technology is widely used in the metal-producing industries. Not only in iron and steel, where it has been in operation for decades but also within the last years intensively in non-ferrous metals production. Inert gases are used to introduce an agitation effect as well as for degassing the melt, and alternatively reactive gases can improve or even enable refining processes. In this paper, the improvement in the melt processing of two major metals is discussed using the examples of an anode furnace from a Chinese primary copper producer and a melting furnace of an aluminum slug plant in Austria.
