- Abstract
The University of Montevideo (UM) participated in the first Rioplatense Conference on Constitutional Law, organized by the Parliament. The event was attended by Dr. Miguel Casanova and Dr. Sofía Maruri, as well as other experts from Argentina and Uruguay. During the conference, discussions were held on the protection of human beings in the face of abuses of power, human rights and control of conventionality, presidentialism in Latin America, and the functioning of control mechanisms during times of instability. In addition, topics related to the beginning and end of life, the legislative power, and regulatory delegation in the executive power were addressed. The Faculty of Law of UM was part of the discussion panels, and the dean, Dr. Miguel Casanova, highlighted the university's interest in addressing issues of national legislation, especially in the context of the new euthanasia and palliative care laws. Dr. Sofía Maruri participated in a roundtable discussion on rights at the beginning and end of life. Additionally, Dr. Nicolás Etcheverry, a professor at FDER, participated in an International Congress on Comparative Law in Asunción, where he was a panelist in a conversation on speeches and freedom of expression, and moderated a discussion workshop on university rankings.
