Beijing's Bid to De-Risk Its Global Infrastructure Initiative. Williamsburg, Va.: AidData – a Research Lab at William and Mary, November 2023
- Abstract
The report "Belt and Road Reboot" analyzes the Chinese "Belt and Road Initiative" (BRI) and the associated risks. China remains the largest official source of international development assistance, but the US and other G7 countries are catching up. China is also the world's largest official debt collector, as many borrowers are illiquid or insolvent. Nevertheless, China has taken measures to reduce risks and reduce its dependence on indebted countries. The study also examines Beijing's ESG risk reduction efforts and efforts to reduce reputation risks.
