- Abstract
Marital satisfaction is an important factor that can make a stable marriage relationship and one important factor needed to influence it is the perception of fairness in the division of household matters. This study aims to examine the relationship between perceived role equality and marital satisfaction and to test the mediating effect of common dyadic coping in this relationship model. This study uses a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional study design. A total of 1180 individuals in the first 5 years of marriage participated in this study who were recruited through distributing online questionnaires. The results of Hayes' PROCESS v4.0 analysis show that perceived fairness can significantly predict marital satisfaction, and common dyadic coping is a significant mediator in the relationship model (direct effect, c' = 5.096, 95% CI [4.375; 5.818]; indirect effect, a*b = 2.878, 95% CI [2.3131; 3.4782]). Thus, perceptions of fairness in the division of household matters can predict common dyadic coping, which in turn predicts marital satisfaction.
