- Abstract
The skill to communicate is extremely important in every moment of human life. The interpersonal communication is a complex process that first takes place within the individual when he or she wishes to share his or her ideas with someone. The profession of the medical specialists is associated with intense communication activity and empathy. In the medical practice of the rehabilitation therapist, empathy requires an intellectual understanding of the patient, sharing his feelings, effective communication, and a positive attitude towards the patient. Mastering and applying the tools of communication in the medical practice have a favorable effect on the patient's behavior and support the patient. The effectiveness of communication depends on the extent to which the relationship between the rehabilitation therapist and the patient is built on the principles of collaboration, mutual respect and trust, empathy and responsibility. Empathic professional behavior extends the patient's understanding beyond the history and symptoms of his or her illness and is a prerequisite for achieving an effective therapeutic outcome. Communication is the activity of people for the purpose of developing psychological contact, characterized by the exchange of information, mutual understanding and empathy. Good communication is part of the role of the healthcare professional. When dealing with suffering people, it is important to support both the patient and his or her environment, and to overcome the health problem and its consequences more easily. The purpose of this study is to analyze the psychological aspects of communication and empathy in the work of the medical specialist - rehabilitation therapist. Conclusion: As a profession with a strong social element, it cannot be practiced without having theoretical knowledge and practical communication skills. Sick people are always looking for contacts with professionals, expecting human communication, understanding, sympathy, empathy and support. The effective communication and interaction are the main factors for achieving good therapeutic results.
