- Abstract
The article looks at legal and political issues facing Turkey in its effort to become a member of the European Union (EU). It provides an overview of the history of Turkey's intent to integrate with European nations and the country's relations with the EU. Some of the factors that prevent the Turkish accession are indicated, including the country's geographical location and the need to promote democracy, functioning market economy and respect to human rights. In addition, the article explores the impact of Turkey's economic condition and religion on its bid to become an EU member.
