- Abstract
Objective: to qualify the impact of deaths in the state of Minas Gerais due to coronavirus, using the indicating Potential Years of Life Lost. Method: quantitative, observational study, with secondary data referring to death by coronavirus in the state of Minas Gerais until June 10, 2020. The Romander and McWhinnie technique was used, considering 76 years of life expectancy. Results: the number of reported deaths, of individuals up to 75 years old, was 399, which totals 4.284,5 Potential Years of Life Lost. Of the overall total of deaths, 83.37% occurred at an economically active age (15 to 64 years), totaling 3.572 Potential Years of Life Lost. Conclusion: the consequences of coronavirus have major biopsychosocial and economic impacts on family and social groups. Thus, it is essential to develop strategies to minimize injuries, and consequently deaths it in the state of Minas Gerais.
