- Title
The Demographic Shift From Single-Family to Multifamily Housing.
- Authors
Rappaport, Jordan
- Abstract
The article discusses the need to recognize the demographic shift from single-family to multifamily housing to understand the evolution of the U.S. housing market. It cites the projections that construction will accelerate moderately for single-family housing but strongly for multifamily. It also notes the impact of the change in the tax code that removes subsidies to homeownership on single-family construction. The long-lasting effects of the projected shift on the U.S. economy are outlined.
