- Abstract
The influence of atmosphere (gas pressure) in a growth chamber on the temperature profile along a growing nanowhisker (NW) has been theoretically and experimentally studied. A model is constructed and analyzed, which allows the temperature field to be calculated with allowance for the heat conductivity, thermal radiation according to Stefan-Boltzmann law, and heat exchange with the gas phase. It is established that growing pressure leads to an increase in the cooling effect. The curve of the temperature difference between the crystal base and top contains a radiation-controlled vacuum branch, a heat-exchange-controlled region at high pressures, and an intermediate region characterized by a sharp enhancement of the cooling effect. The results of calculations well agree with experimental data obtained for a model system.
