- Title
Consumer-oriented advertising--informational, or a subtle form of blackmail?
- Authors
Simonsen, Richard J.
- Abstract
The article reflects on the promotion of new dental techniques and materials, not tested in clinical trials, in mass media. It describes how the consumer-oriented advertising of new techniques and materials put undue pressure on practitioners to use the material or the technique. It is opined that dental products should not be advertised in magazines without successful clinical trials, and while advertising, care should be taken that the public understands the limitations of the procedure.
