- Abstract
The article presents information on halitosis and fetor oris. Halitosis refers to offensive breath, and fetor oris refers to unpleasant mouth odor; and both are caused due to physiologic or pathologic conditions. It is stated that atmospheric air is inhaled and exhaled along sealed pathways in the lungs that consists of the bronchi, the larynx and the pharynx. The air is finally evacuated through the mouth or the nose and nasopharynx; and the final odor of the breath is composed of odors present in the lungs and lower respiratory system. For the treatment of halitosis and feter oris, it is suggested that brushing tooth and tongue can reduce the sulfur components in oral air; and avoiding aromatic foods such as garlic and onion helps prevent bad breath.
