- Title
Managing the Psychosocial Impact of Vitiligo.
- Authors

- Abstract
Vitiligo is a skin condition that affects about one percent of Americans, with the onset of the disease differing between males and females. Most female patients are diagnosed before the age of 20, while most male patients are diagnosed in their 50s. The visual nature of the diagnosis and the young age at which it often occurs for females can have a significant impact on their psychosocial development. Healthcare providers need to be aware of this and offer counseling when necessary. This information is based on a video presentation by Shanna Miranti for The Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology's Expert Perspectives in Vitiligo web series.
