- Title
Conviction and Contradiction: Reassessing Theological Formation in Baptist Identity.
- Authors
Leonard, Bill J.
- Abstract
The article discusses the relation of doctrinal confessions to the identity of Baptists. It is said that Baptists have historically been divided due to theological controversies, while the notion of a believer's church has united Baptist beliefs regarding Scripture, baptism, and religious liberty. The 17th century division between Calvinist (Particular) and non-Calvinist (General) Baptists is addressed. Other divisions addressed regard the modern missions movement, the Landmarkism movement, and divisions within the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC).
