- Abstract
The article discusses the life and religious faith of English Baptist church leader Thomas Helwys, focusing particularly on the strength of his beliefs despite persecution and his support of religious freedom. His experiences as a member of the English gentry are also detailed by the author. Helwys' criticism of the Church of England is described, as is the moving of his Separatist congregation to Amsterdam, Netherlands. The author examines Helwys' religious work "A Short Declaration of the Mystery of Iniquity."
