- Title
A NATIONAL STUDY OF RECENT DIOCESAN EFFORTS AT PARISH REORGANIZATION IN THE UNITED STATES.
- Abstract
The article presents information about a national study of recent diocesan efforts at Parish reorganization in the United States. The study, which identified a wide range of impacts associated with parish changes, surveyed dioceses and parishes throughout the country and conducted interviews with selected pastors in parishes that had been reorganized in some way, such as linking for pastoral action, sharing a pastor, or merging parishes. Three in five parish leaders said that the time they spend on administrative responsibilities increased with the reorganization. Researchers recommended that Dioceses that are considering parish reorganization should set goals, provide and train leadership, prepare the people in advance, consult extensively, and move at a deliberate pace.
