- Abstract
The article focuses on the tissue proliferations associated with Nemesis lamna infestations on the gill filaments of shortin makos. In the laboratory, copepods were removed and identified, noting their location and degree of infestation upon the gills. Proliferation specifically occurred in the epithelial and connective layers surrounding the efferent arterioles. Tissue sections gave no indication of blood circulatory impairment associated with infestations. Lamnids are characterized as highly active fishes whose oxygen requirements presumably would be high.
