- Abstract
This document is a letter to the editor of the Annals of Cardiac Anaesthesia, commenting on a study comparing noninvasive cardiac output monitoring by electrical cardiometry with transthoracic echocardiography in postoperative pediatric cardiac surgical patients. The study analyzed data from 25 pediatric patients and found a strong positive correlation between the two monitoring systems. However, the study has limitations, including a small sample size and the inability to establish causality. The authors suggest that future research should include a larger sample size and a randomized controlled trial to increase generalizability and establish causality. They also recommend identifying and accounting for potential confounders and evaluating the agreement between the monitoring systems in different patient populations or clinical settings.
