- Title
Reversals of Established Medical Practices Evidence to Abandon Ship.
- Authors
Prasad, Vinay; Cifu, Adam; loannidis, John P. A.
- Abstract
The authors call for the abandonment of reversals of established standards of medical care because of little evidence, have not tested clinically relevant outcomes or have been biased. The authors cite percutaneous coronary intervention for stable coronary artery disease, hormone therapy for post-menopausal women, and vertebroplasty for the treatment of osteoporotic fractures as examples of medical reversals with little evidence. They identify three consequences of medical practice reversals.
