- Title
Longer Pauses Between CPR Compressions and Defibrillation May Decrease Survival.

- Abstract
The article reports on research studies suggesting that decreasing preshock interval may help increase the chances of survival of cardiac arrest patients. The author explains that preshock interval is the period between cardiopulmonary resuscitation and defibrillation. Researchers from the Resuscitation Outcomes Consortium believe that longer pauses between these two can diminish the survival chances of patients. The author states that the reason there is a preshock period is because defibrillators are designed in such a way that they require time to analyze whether the heart rhythm of the patient is a "shockable" rhythm that has need of defibrillation.
