- Title
Exenatide and Kidney Function.
- Abstract
The article reports on a warning issued by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for physicians on the side effects of exenatide for type 2 diabetes. The agency claims that it had received reports of acute renal failure or renal insufficiency in 78 persons who were treated with the anti-diabetes medication from April 2005 through October 2008. An update was put into the drug's label stating that the drug should not be used in patients suffering from several renal impairment. Physicians were also advised to observe caution in increasing dosage.
