- Title
Approval for Pesticide Toxicity Testing in Humans Draws Criticism.
- Authors

- Abstract
The article reports that a rule from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPS) on toxicity testing of pesticides on human subjects is drawing criticism. The rule will end a moratorium on human testing, put in place in 2005 until the EPA created stricter guidelines on testing. The new rule prevents research submitted to the EPA from having been tested on pregnant women or children, extends "Common Rule" ethical protections, requires compliance with EPA protocols and establishes an independent Human Studies Review Board. Critics led by Sen. Barbara Boxer and Reps. Henry A. Waxman and Hilda L. Solis say the rule allows pesticide testing on humans in violation of the wishes of the U.S. Congress.
