- Abstract
Mediastinal structures of 49 patients were demonstrated by Xerotomography and compared with the findings of ordinary film tomography. Our results suggest that Xerotomography is superior to film tomography in demonstrating the figures of the tracheobronchial tree and blood vessels in the mediastinum. Anteroposterior Xerotomography is recommended for demonstrating the abnormal swelling of right and left paratracheal lymph nodes and tracheo-bronchial lymph nodes which affect the normal figures of the tracheobronchial tree and blood vessels. Right posterior oblique Xerotomography at an angle of 55 degrees is valuable for evaluation of the pretracheal and subcarinal lymph nodes. Because the tracheobronchial wall was demonstrated clearly Xerotomography was sometimes able to determine whether the lymph node metastases stayed within the lymph nodes or infiltrated into the bronchial wall.
