- Title
Pest's Taste for Fine Wine May Prove Its Undoing.
- Authors
Suszkiw, Jan
- Abstract
The article discusses a research study published in the February 2014 issue of the journal "Pest Management Science" which found that the spotted wing drosophila (SWD) species Drosophila suzukii is attracted to certain chemicals found in the aromas of wine and vinegar. Research findings reveal the role of ethanol and acetic acid in wine-plus-vinegar blends in attracting more flies. The response of SWD to Merlot wine and rice vinegar and to Chardonnay and rice-vinegar is indicated.
