- Title
SCIENTIFIC INVESTIGATION OF THE MATERIALS IN A CHINESE MING DYNASTY WALL PAINTING.
- Abstract
The article discusses a study conducted to know materials and techniques used in forming Buddhist mural paintings on the wall of the Dazhao temple in Hohhot, China, under the project Rescue and Conserve the Endangered Wall Paintings in the Museums of China. It is evident that the mural painting from one of the walls of the temple was detached in 1950s due to reconstruction work. It has been stated that investigations revealed that a mixture of coarse sand with fine grained alumosilicate was used for the ground layer of the painting, and dolomite and alumosilicate were used in the preparation layer.
