- Abstract
The article presents a case study of a 31 year old female who developed achalasia after a severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection (COVID-19). It is reported that the patient experienced dysphagia and limb weakness, leading to a diagnosis of type 2 achalasia six months later. It suggests a possible link between COVID-19 and achalasia, proposing mechanisms involving an inappropriate immune response causing degeneration of inhibitory neurons at the myenteric plexus.
