- Abstract
Introduction: The restoration of anterior teeth with ceramic laminates associates aesthetics and functional benefits with a conservative restoration technique. Three different types of tooth preparation for this technique are described with different incisal ends: overlap, window and 45° bevel. Objective: Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate by a literature review, the influence of teeth preparation designs on clinical longevity of ceramic laminates. Methods: A research was made in PubMed database for clinical retrospective and prospective studies published between 2000 and 2010, with at least 1 year follow-up. The search terms used were porcelain, ceramic, laminate, veneers, and their combinations. Results: From 243 retrieved articles, 10 were selected, totalizing 2,100 ceramic laminates. The predominant incisal ending was the overlap (49.09%), followed by 45° bevel (17.52%) and the window type (17.35%). The buccal wear ranged from 0.3 to 1 mm. All clinical trials showed high success rates, regardless of the teeth preparation design. Conclusion: Within the limits of this review, it can be concluded that the type of dental preparation does not influence the success rates of ceramic laminates.
