- Abstract
People, living in Lithuania, have always spoken not only the Lithuanian language but other languages, first of all, languages of neighbouring countries- Polish, Belarusian and Russian. Such situation of multilinguism often caused bilingual borrowings (Lithuanian- Russian, Lithuanian- Polish, Lithuanian- Belarusian, Russian- Lithuanian, Polish- Lithuanian) et cetera. Those borrowings preserved phonetic, lexical and grammatical peculiarities of the language of origin. Due to a certain sociolinguistic and historical situation, vocabulary is usually influenced the most of all other language spheres. The number of borrowings is rising and they are mostly used by less educated people, even though there is no significant reason for this. After the Second World War till the Restoration of Independence, there were some borrowings from the Russian language which were lithuanized, for example: "gaikė", "atviortkė", "fortkė", "tapkės" and so on. Another reason for borrowings into the Lithuanian language is jargonization of young people's speech. The main reason for that, in the author of this article opinion, is that young generation has strong desire for communication in the multicultural surroundings. The largest number of borrowings are from the Russian language. They are words and word combinations. The author of this article analyses the examples of such borrowings.
