- Abstract
The fight for territory among indigenous and large farmers is a recurrent theme in Mato Grosso do Sul. The state is home to the second largest indigenous population of the country - about 60 thousand. The press has treated the subject of prejudice and biased manner. Silencing the Indian occurs with the denial of his voice but also in the choice of guidelines and focus predominantly negative. In this paper we address the coverage Case Guaiviry, resulting in the death of the chief Nísio Gomes, after gunmen attack to an Indian camp in the southern state. By adopting the features of the critique of narrative analysis (MOTTA, 2013), we observed a sample of articles published on the subject, through what we found ways of silencing - the Press and the Indians. Finally, we seek to understand the reasons of such behavior and, therefore, we turn to the thought of Boaventura de Sousa Santos.
