- Abstract
The article presents an historical exploration into the political dynamics of Arkansas in 1888 surrounding the legislative elections and third-party candidates. Details are given describing the significance and controversy surrounding the 1888 election due to allegations of possible voter fraud after ballot boxes were stolen. The relative power and influence of third parties in Arkansas at the time is analyzed in depth, focusing on the campaigns and constituency of the Agricultural Wheel and the Union Labor Party. Attention is also given specifically to the rivalry between populist third parties and the Democratic Party.
