The article discusses the importance of substitution in making decisions. It relates a situation wherein a solo skier tried a second slide on Pucker Face near the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort in Wyoming despite the avalanche danger on the slope. It presents the view of Nobel-prize winner Daniel Kahneman regarding substitution and the refusal of the skier to answer the question posed to him on whether he was concerned about the avalanche danger on the slope
