- Abstract
An interview with Randal J. Kirk, leader of Synthetic biology company Intrexon Corp., is presented. When asked about Kirk's efforts to use bioinformatics and algorithms to assemble genetics elements such as promoters, Kirk mentioned that the firm is not only synthesizing DNA, but also other components required in engineering biology. It discusses Intrexon's acquisition of biotechnology firm Oxitec, and Kirk's concerns about anti-Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) activity.
