- Title
Industry exhales as USDA okays glyphosate-resistant alfalfa.
- Authors
Waltz, Emily
- Abstract
The article reports on the decision of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to allow U.S. farmers to plant once again genetically engineered alfalfa in January 2011. It says that the ruling came after a four-year U.S. court-imposed ban and tumultuous debate, which offers the agricultural biotechnology industry some soft of relief. According to the author, the USDA was proposing to put geographic restrictions on planting in response to the requests of organic growers. The factors that led to the decision of the USDA are also discussed.
