- Abstract
The article "The fixed book price in the digital age: its compatibility with Union law - an analysis from the perspective of internal market law" by Bernadette Zelger from Innsbruck examines the compatibility of the fixed book price in Germany and Austria with EU internal market law. It discusses relevant case law of the European Court of Justice and provisions of Union law. In Europe, there are regulations for setting book prices in 14 out of 32 countries. The author concludes that the legal provisions for the fixed book price in Austria and Germany are compatible with Union law. The article also discusses the fixed book price in the digital age and emphasizes the need to view, understand, and apply internal market rules and competition rules in the context of the overall project of a "united Europe". It argues that the fixed book price is important in the digital age to maintain pluralism of opinions and public discourse.
