Presents the authors' clarification in response to a commentary by Gary Kleck on their article, contained in this issue of the "Journal of Quantitative Criminology," which analyzes how the 1994 federal ban on assault weapons and large-capacity magazines (AW-LCM ban) affected 1995 homicide rates in the U.S. Appreciation for Kleck's efforts in questioning the efficacy of the authors' study; Highlights of the findings of the authors' study; Problems in interpreting of the statistical significance of the decline in gun homicides; Lack of confirming evidence of an AW-LCM ban effect; Criticism of Kleck's understanding of the role of scholarly journals in public policy debates; Discussion of the findings of the National Crime Victimization Survey.
