- Abstract
The article presents a statistical analysis which evaluates the variability of Kostenki shoulder points in Russia. It reconstructs the factors which could have caused the variability in Kostenki points. The study shows significant differences in metric characteristics among two groups of Kostenki points differing in type of retouch. It suggests that the original shape of the points was variable and was primarily defined by the size and shape of the blank. It is concluded that notched Kostenki points were used as knives appears more plausible.
