- Abstract
This paper is aiming to disclose the concept of social indicators and its meaning for modern public administration practice and appropriate scientific research. it is stressed necessity to create in Lithuania national system of social indicators. Methodological problems of legitimating the thematic (dimensional) structure of social indicators were discussed. It is indicated social indicators coherence with fundamental methodological problems of society cognition: social measurement and evaluation, social diagnostics and social prognosis. It is stated coherence of social indicators with social welfare, quality of life, sustainable development and new public management concepts. Paper is based on assumption, that new public management is an instrument of sustainable development assurance: sustainable development has to create prerequisites for quality of life. Problem of quality of life indicators is analysed, assuming necessity to combine in particular research objective and subjective quality of life indicators. It is indicated, that subjective indicators are source of scientific information and subjective quality of life is an independent object of social cognition. In this paper is also presented particular municipality residents public opinion research methodology, based on subjective quality of life indicators.
