- Abstract
Introduction: this work aims to analyze the knowledge of Italian nurses regarding DCD donation, trying to understand the level of preparation and in which part this depends on fundamental and post-basic training or depending on some personal aspects. Materials and methods: a narrative review of the literature was performed by consulting the MEDLINE database with PubMed interface and, subsequently, by setting up a descriptive observational study by administering a questionnaire consisting of 19 multiple choice items. Results: the analysis of the articles showed that experience and specific training ensure that the delicate donation process does not undergo arrest phases and is successful. The results of the study were processed depending on age, basic and postbasic training and diversity of the work setting. Discussion: the results of the questionnaire seem to confirm what emerged from the narrative review, namely the need for staff training for a correct conduction of the donation/transplant process from NHBD donors. Conclusions: to increase the procurement from NHBD donor and ensure that the process suffers as few interruptions as possible, it is essential to carry out ongoing training courses for the workers involved.
