- Abstract
Introduction: The Orders of the Nursing Professions of Lombardy have deeply studied how the nursing figure can mitigate the phenomenon of overcrowding in the Emergency Room, For this reason, protocols for nursing management have been developed; it is believed that such protocols, through the management of time, flows, and appropriateness, can generate benefits in terms of reducing time within the E.R., reducing the phenomenon of overcrowding and related risks. One of the protocols concerns a time-dependent pathology: chest pain. Materials and Methods: 186 patients were enrolled for the study (122 patients in 2018, 64 in 2019), and related relevant data were compared. The triage system provided patients' waiting time, the request time for blood tests for the early identification of MHI, and the total time spent in E.R. by patients with chest pain, who were assigned a green priority code (before and with the application of the nursing care protocol). Results: thanks to nursing care, the average patient care time decreases by 68.34 minutes. The average troponin demand time decreases by 72.5 minutes. The total time spent in the emergency room decreases by 92.93 minutes. Conclusions: nursing care transforms passive waiting into active waiting, promoting the achievement of the 'Gold Standard' of the E.R. process within eight hours and the early diagnosis of time-dependent diseases
