- Abstract
The article discusses the historically low board pass rates in Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine (BBTM) and explores potential causes for this decline. The pass rates in BBTM have significantly decreased in recent years, with the lowest rate among pathology subspecialties in 2022. The COVID-19 pandemic has likely played a role in this decline, as it has affected the ability of fellows to prepare for the board examination and the ability of programs to effectively prepare examinees. Changes in education strategies, increased clinical service volume, and personal challenges faced by fellows during the pandemic are all factors that may have contributed to the low pass rates. The article emphasizes the importance of prioritizing BBTM education and ensuring that trainees are adequately prepared and aware of available resources.
