- Title
Bird-like inclusion in diamond.
- Authors
Laurs, Brendan M.
- Abstract
The article reports on the discovery of a bird-like inclusion in diamond by jewelry appraiser Lori Provo Coogan. The interesting internal feature was noticed by Coogan while she was appraising a 2.41 carat diamond set in a ring. It was observed that the internal feature was comprised of a brownish orange mineral inclusion that was surrounded by tension fractures. It is suggested by the color and form of the mineral inclusion that it is an eclogitic garnet. Patterns that resemble feathers and a curved beak were also noted.
