- Abstract
The article highlights the presentation by geologist Ed Speer titled "Emerald Crystal Pockets of the Hiddenite District, Alexander County, North Carolina," at the 2008 Tucson Gem and Mineral Society show held on February 16. The emeralds presented by Speer occur within pockets hosted by subvertical quartz veins intruding foliated migmatitic gneiss. Statistics on the quantity and carat weight of the emeralds that were recovered from the cavities were presented by Speer. He also provided records and photos of more than 10 emerald crystals exceeding 100 ct.
