- Abstract
The article presents information on the blue-green opal from Iran. Gem-grade blue-green opal has traditionally originated from the Andes Mountains in Peru. According to Makhmout Douman, a new deposit was discovered about 110 kilometers northwest of the town of Shahr-e Babak in Kerman Province. However, mining activities had nearly stopped due to groundwater seeping into the pits. Few stones have been polished due to the cracked nature and shallow thickness of the stone. Examination of the stone showed large amounts of silicon, minor copper and traces of iron.
