The article focuses on the shift to a community and population health-focused preventative model from an illness-based model for health care in the U.S. Topics mentioned include an overview of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act which promotes prevention and coordination of care, expanded role of registered nurses in community health care, and the need for nursing schools to re-evaluate their curricula to provide nurses with the appropriate knowledge, skills, and attitudes.
